Venugopal wrote a letter saying, “The Congress President has accepted the request of the party’s General Secretary Mukul Wasnik to be relieved of his present responsibility as in-charge of Madhya Pradesh.” So that they can look after other organizational matters. On the orders of the Congress President, Jaiprakash Agrawal has been appointed in-charge of Madhya Pradesh with immediate effect. Mukul Wasnik will continue as Congress General Secretary. The party appreciates his contribution as the general secretary in-charge of MP.

According to news agency IANS, Congress is also working on Plan B for the post of President. Speculations are rife that Mukul Wasnik may be pushed forward to file nomination papers if Ashok Gehlot refuses to contest.

There is also a possibility of he may be made General Secretary.At present, this post is with KC Venugopal, a close aide of Rahul Gandhi. Wasnik has a very long experience in the organization. He started his politics with NSUI, the student wing of Congress.
