Liquor shops closed during lockdown in the country have been allowed to open in the Green Zone with certain conditions. Liquor and betel shops in the Green Zone have been permitted to open with certain conditions. According to the information, liquor shops and betel shops will be allowed to operate in the green zone, ensuring a minimum distance of six feet (two yards) from each other. Also, it has to be ensured that no more than 5 persons are present at the shop at one time. It will be very important to take care of physical distance.

Explain that the entire country is divided into 733 zones. Of these, 130 red zones, 284 orange zones and 319 green zones have been declared. Institutes that provide essential services and goods including barber shops, salons in the districts of the Green Zone will also open from May 4. Cinema hall, mall, gym, sports complex etc. will remain closed. Apart from this, after May 3, in these districts factories, shops, small industries including transport and other services have also been allowed to open fully with conditions.

Significantly, due to the lockdown, the state is losing crores of rupees revenue due to non-opening of liquor shops. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had appealed to the Central Government to open a liquor shop through social media. He had said that the state government gets the most revenue from liquor shops. In such a situation, the liquor shops are facing considerable financial loss.
