Originally resident of Lucknow, Hitesh Chandra Awasthi has been posted as SP in CBI from 1994 to 2001 during the central deputation for the first time. Hitesh Chandra Awasthi, known for his clean image, also served as DIG in Central Investigation Agency for about one and a half years between 2000 and 2001. Subsequently, he was posted as IG / Joint Director in Central CBI from 2007 to 2013 and carried out several important investigations under his leadership.
Hitesh Chandra Awasthi was also the SP of Tehri Garhwal and Haridwar in undivided Uttar Pradesh. Before becoming DGP, he was posted in the important post of DG Vigilance in the state. He was also posted as DG Anti-Corruption Organization and EOW. Awasthi was promoted from ADG to DG post in 2016 with a long experience of working in investigating agencies. He was appointed acting DGP of Uttar Pradesh on 31 January 2020 and full-time DGP on 4 March 2020.
