It will take 2-3 years for the whole world to vaccinate the corona vaccine: Adar Poonawala

In the midst of the ongoing debate over vaccine export, the Serum Institute has released the statement of Adar Poonawala.

Adar Poonawala, the head of Serum Institute of India, the largest vaccine-making company in India, has issued a statement saying that it will take 2-3 years to fully vaccinate the entire population of the world. Apart from this, Poonawala said that a country with a large population like India cannot be given a vaccine in two or three months. Amid the ongoing debate over vaccine exports, he said- ‘SII never exported vaccines at the cost of the people of India’.

World will take 2-3 years to vaccinate: Poonawala

In the midst of the ongoing debate over vaccine export, the Serum Institute has issued the statement of Adar Poonawala.

We are among the 2 most populous countries in the world, so the vaccination campaign for such a large population cannot be completed in 2-3 months. Because there are many challenges. It will take 2-3 years for the entire world population to be fully vaccinated. We cannot export vaccine at the cost of the people of India.
— Adar Poonawala, CEO Serum Institute

‘Corona cases were few then ..’

Poonawala said in a statement- ‘When the vaccine was launched in January, there was a large stock of vaccines in India. Then the corona virus case was at its lowest level and the vaccination campaign had started. But at the same time, many other countries were facing serious crisis and they needed help. Then India helped the needy countries and now India is getting help from those countries.

‘We have also promised others ..’

Adar Poonawala said- ‘We have made some alliances with the world, which we have promised to COVAX. So that they too can distribute the vaccine in the world and eliminate the corona crisis from the world. We will continue to work on increasing vaccine production.

On May 14, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that more than 5 crore vaccines were sent not out as a help but under the contract rules of the serum company. But the Union Health Minister shared a screenshot of a blog saying that, despite the lack of vaccine in the country, we sent around 66 million vaccine doses worldwide on the basis of humanity.

In such a situation, the question is that when other countries of the world were busy preparing the vaccine stock for themselves, why did India not show such strictness on the serum as it is shown today. Apart from this, why did the government not help the serum to speed up vaccine production so that the vaccine can also be exported under the serum agreement and India’s needs can also be fulfilled.
