How To Understand Your Birth Chart and Use It as Your Soul’s Blueprint

Read Time:2 Minute, 42 Second

Did you know that your birth chart is basically a blueprint for your personality? It uses the position of the planets at the moment of your birth to interpret your core values, fashion sense and even how lucky you are. If you can read your birth chart, you can gain a deeper understanding of your inner self.

Know Your Sun Sign and Rising Sign

Your sun sign is the most important aspect of the birth chart. It’s also the sign most people know. The sun sign provides a general description of your personality. For instance, Leos are charismatic, generous and love to be the center of attention.

It’s also the sign you use to find your horoscope. For example, people born between June 22nd and July 22nd came into the world when the crab was prominent in the sky. They’ll look for the cancer daily horoscope to see what the day holds.

Your rising sign (also called the ascendent) is the sign on the eastern horizon at your birth. It governs how you interact with the world. As an example, people see a Virgo rising as understanding, patient and kind upon first meeting.

Know Your Planetary Placements

Ancient astrological practices only included the following planets:

  • Mercury
  • Saturn
  • Jupiter
  • Mars
  • Venus

At the time, these were the only heavenly bodies (besides the sun and moon) that people could see. As technology advanced, astrologers had the telescopes to see the other planets. As a result, modern astrology includes these as well:

  • Pluto
  • Uranus
  • Neptune

Please note that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration no longer considers Pluto a planet. However, astrologers still include it as a ruler of change.

In fact, each planet has influence over a concept closely associated with its namesake. For instance, Jupiter is the planet of fortune, Mars is the arbiter of passion and Mercury is the ruler of communication.

Houses

A birth chart consists of 12 houses named for the zodiac signs. Each house describes an aspect of your personality. The 12th house indicates endings and the afterlife; the 11th shows your social groups and so forth. When a planet falls into a house, it impacts that aspect of your life.

For instance, Venus is the planet of love, beauty and luxury; the second house describes your relationship with money. When Venus falls in the second house, it indicates that you value beautiful things as well as relationships, and your motivation for making money is to acquire material comforts.

Birth Chart Shapes

Planets tend to group on a birth chart, creating patterns. There are seven common patterns, each revealing a hidden aspect of your personality. It doesn’t matter which heavenly bodies fall where — when reading patterns, all that matters is the particular shape:

  • The Seesaw
  • The Locomotive
  • The Bucket
  • The Bowl
  • The Bundle

The final two, the Splay and the Splash, have the most even distribution of planets and are the rarest patterns.

A firm understanding of your birth chart provides a good foundation for other psychic readings. For instance, knowing your motivations can help you make decisions after receiving pendulum psychic readings. The stars continue to exert their influence as the seasons change, so don’t be afraid to learn more about astrology beyond your birth chart.
