Virabhadrasana is a standing asana which is also known as the Warrior pose. It is a modern Yoga posture having ancient name as there is no mention of this posture in Classic Yoga Text. There are 3 types of Warrior pose. Virabhadrasana benefits people in almost all aspects. The list of benefits is mentioned below.

 

How to perform:

Step 1. Stand in Tadasana keeping a distance of 3 to 4 feet between the feets.

Step 2. Start with any side by taking the right foot out making a right angle (90 degrees) and the left food inwards by around 20 degrees.

Step 3. Take the right foot out in the front and turn the head & upper body towards right.

Step 4. Breathe in while taking the arms upwards with palms facing towards each other. Keep your eyes towards the front and slightly bend the head towards back.

Step 5. Hold the position for 30 seconds, exhale and slowly return to initial position.
Repeat the process from left side as well.

Virabhadrasana benefits:

1. Flexibility in Backbone:

Backbone is the most important part of this asana. It promotes flexibility and strength in backbone. While keeping the torso portion of the body towards the back, backbone muscle stretches and helps in proper functioning of the body. Backbone also helps to maintain good posture.

2. Improvement in blood circulation:

While performing the asana, the blood circulation stimulates. The blood circulation gets blocked on the knee area but the upper body circulation increase as all the muscles come to play. It helps in proper functioning of internal body organs. Breathing is also controlled and rhythmic which helps to understand the body better.

3. Strengthening of Body Muscles:

Virabhadrasana benefits in strengthening of body muscles. All the lower body is in action while performing the asana. Thus the hips, thigh, knee and foot muscles gets toned and are strengthened. It also helps in balancing the body. The whole body weight should not be entirely on knees and foot. The shoulders and arms muscles also get stretched.

4.Works as remedy for menstrual cramps:

Yoga is an effective way to reduce menstrual cramps. Virabhadrasana benefits in regular blood circulation and bodily activity which stretches the muscles and helps in proper functioning of internal organs leading to regular and timely menstrual cycle.

While performing the asana, conditioning of all the joints take place. The muscles around knees, elbows and upper hips majorly comes into play making them strong and flexible. It builds strength and overall health of an individual.

6. Retains the Body shape:

This asana helps in keeping coordination between hands, legs, hips and shoulder. Alignment of all these body parts helps in toning of the entire body. Virabhadrasana benefits in retaining the body shape and helps to create perfect posture.

7. Beneficial for Athletes:

Athletes are known for their speed and flexibility. Virabhadrasana benefits the athletes as the hamstring get expanded and stretched which can be helpful in other events and runs. Strengthening of hamstring takes place which makes the athletes less prone to injury. Even if there is any injury then it can be cured in a short span of time.

8. Cures Anxiety and Depression:

Virabhadrasana benefits in curing anxiety and depression. When the backbone bends backwards, it helps in functioning of nervous system and keeps it active. Thus, the stress and tension stored in rib cage or back muscles releases.
