3 major updates for the 2022 F1 car.

2022 is going to be an exciting year for F1 and the fans, this is the year that almost brings about a revolution for the sport and everyone involved in it. This includes changes to the car itself and the rules of the sport, the former being the topic of discussion in this article.

Here are five things to know about the new F1 2022 car, the full-scale model which, in all its glory broke cover after the British Grand Prix on Thursday.

Design changes have been made to promote better racing

The 2022 F1 car will feature major changes in its aerodynamics to allow closer racing and more overtake opportunities, the turbulent air coming from the car in front makes it almost impossible for the chasing car to follow closely for long, as it loses downforce and the rubber on the tires degrades way faster because of this. This reduces overtake maneuvers which is exactly what racing enthusiasts want to see.

The new car has improvements in the phenomenon called ‘ground effect’ which reduces the reduction in downforce for the chasing car from 35% to an astonishing 4% at 20 meters and from 47% to a mere 18% at 10 meters distance from the leading car

The car will feature Pirelli’s new, bigger 18” wheels

These new tires from Pirelli will reduce the tire heat produced when the car slides allowing for increased grip and a better safety profile. These low profile tires have reduced sidewall deflection again improving aerodynamic and promoting closer racing

The 2022 F1 car will flaunt a well rethought front wing and nose

Although not drastically different, the new front wing is designed to increase downforce and keep it that way consistently to allow closer racing also the wing channels the wake from the front wheels under the car and to the side so that the chasing car doesn’t face the brunt.
