Sputnik V has been approved for emergency use in India

Russia’s Covid vaccine Sputnik V has been approved for emergency use in India. However, it will take some time for this vaccine to be included in India’s vaccination program. But there is a good news related to this. Russian scientists have found Sputnik V to be 97.6% effective against COVID-19 in a new assessment.

The Gamalaya Institute of Moscow, which created this vaccine, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which funds it, have given information about this.

According to a Reuters report, based on an assessment of the data of 38 lakh people, this efficacy has been revealed. Russian scientists are calling it ‘real = world assessment’. That means an assessment of the people who were given the vaccine.

How did you get a new result?

The new data is based on the 38 lakh Russian people who have received both the first and booster doses of the vaccine. These people received the Sputnik V under Russia’s National Vaccination Program.

“These data confirm that Sputnik V offers one of the best defenses against coronaviruses in all vaccines,” said RDIF CEO Kirill Dimitrev.

“The data was collected based on the database of the Ministry of Health registering vaccinated people and the database of people infected with Covid in the country,” the official statement said.

The new data will be published in a peer-reviewed journal next month.

Good news for India

The new data that is effective for the vaccine is even better than the old data. After a major trial in February, Sputnik V was found to be 91.6% effective. The results of this trial were published in The Lancet Medical Journal.

At first a lot of questions were being raised on Sputnik V, only after these results were published in the Lancet, the attitude towards this vaccine was changed.

Now this new data has come and it is better than the previous one. This vaccine has been approved in India and is quite effective as compared to other vaccines given in the country.
